Response#1(Saketh)

In this case the court found Windsor capital and stalker Michael David guilty for secretly recording and sharing a nude video of sportscaster Erin Andrews. Erin was awarded $55 million. The hotel was found to have failed in protecting sportscaster Erin’s privacy when she was a guest at the hotel. Mr. Barrette was also imprisoned for 2 1/2 years.

This case raised the concerns about privacy maintenance. In the case, it was evident that hotel operates were negligent and invaded the privacy of the guests. The result of this case is going to increase the scrutiny of hotel operators regarding what they are doing to improve the privacy of their guests. In as much as privacy had improved in the past this case called for more progress in ensuring privacy.

In the court Barrette said that he used the hotel’s phone to gain contact and the information about Erin’s room number. This showed lack of privacy on guests information which should not have been accessed by the outsiders. The result of this is that there is a requirement of training employees to keep customer’s information private and confidential to ensure protection of their guests.

This case raised an alarm that with the new technologies there is high probability that the hotel industry will have privacy threatened. Use of technology platforms eliminates face to face interactions which are part of advanced safety. This will require hotel operators to create awareness and train their staff so that they will ensure privacy of their guests. Hotel operators must create a balance between meeting the needs of their customers and providing a safe environment for their customers. No hotel would like to have their brand image because of failing to protect the privacy of their guests and even paying such a huge amount. Hotel industry has no option other than protect the privacy of their customers.
